Chutneys
play a very important part in our day to day food, especially in South
Indian cooking. We make variety of chutneys starting from green leaves to all
kinds of vegetables. Today I am going to share “Green Bell Pepper/Green
Capsicum Chuteny” with you all. I have posted other variety of chutneys before,

how to make Green Bell Pepper Chutney with step by step photos…

Ingredients
Green bell pepper/Capsicum
|
2

Onion
|
1 chopped to cubes
|
Tomato
|
1 chopped to cubes
|
Garlic
|
4 cloves
|
Dry Red Chillies/Green chillies
|
2 or 3
|
Urad dal
|
1 tbsp
|
Cumin seeds
|
1 tsp
|
Tamarind
|
One small gooseberry size
|
Salt
|
As needed
|
Coriander leaves
|
1 tbsp finely chopped
|
Oil
|
2 tsp
|
For
Tempering
Oil
|
1 tsp
|
Mustard seeds
|
½ tsp
|
Cumin seeds
|
½ tsp
|
Urad dal
|
1 tsp
|
Curry leaves
|
5- 8 leaves
|
Method
Wash
and cut the green bell pepper in to cubes without the seeds. Chop the onions,
tomatoes and peel the garlic and keep it aside.
Heat
oil in a kadai add the cumin seeds, urad dal and saute until the dal turns
golden brown color. Add the dry red chillies and saute until the color changes.
Add the
onions, garlic, pinch of salt and saute until the onions are translucent.
Now add
the tomatoes and saute until they turn mushy.
Add the
green bell peppers/capsicums, corianderleaves and saute in medium flame for about
3 min or until the capsicums turn soft. Switch off the stove and let it cool.
Blend
everything together with tamarind, salt into a fine paste and transfer it to a
bowl.
Heat
oil in kadai, temper the ingredients mentioned for tempering and add it to the
chutney.
Yummy,
delicious and healthy Capsicum/Green bell pepper chutney is ready to be
enjoyed.
Serve
it with hot idlis, dosas, spread it on bread for sandwich and enjoy your day.
