Kollu Podi/Kollu Idli Milagai Podi/Idli Milagai Podo with HorseGram – Side Dish for Idlis/Dosas/Uthappam

Today I am going to share a very healthy and Idli Milagai Podi made with Kollu/Horse gram. Horse gram/Kollu is most protein rich lentil high in rion, calcium and protein. It is low in fat content and actually helps in management of obesity, because it has the ability to attack fatty tissues. There are several recipes made with Kollu like kollu kootu, kollu rasam, kollu chutney, kollu drink/water, kollu thuvaiyal, kollu sambar, kollu sundal etc which I will be posting in the future posts. Here’s how to make Horse Gram/Kollu Idli Podi with step by step photos…

Ingredients

Kollu/Horsegram
200 gms
Bengalgram Dal/Channa Dal
3 tbsp
Urad Dal/Ullundhu
2 tbsp
Black Pepper Corns
1 tbsp
Dry Red Chillies
6-8
Asafoetida [whole]
¼ inch piece
Curry Leaves
20-25
Sea Salt
¼ tsp

Method

Clean the horse gram thoroughly and roast it to golden brown colour and transfer it to a plate.

Similarly roast the urad dal, channa dal, dry red chillies, curry leaves one by one and transfer it to a plate.


Roast the black pepper corns, when almost done add the sea salt roast for few more seconds and transfer it to a plate.


Finally add few drops of gingelly oil and roast the Asafoetida/Perungayam and transfer it to a plate.

Let everything cool down completely.


Grind it in the mixer to a coarse powder.


Yes, healthy, tasty and delicious Kolly Idli Milagai Podi is ready. Serve it with hot idlis/dosas as sidedish. Add 1 tsp of kollu milagai podi with 1 tsp of gingelly oil and enjoy the idlis. You can enjoy this Kollu Podi with hot white rice and a tsp of gingelly oil.
