Method
Heat the pan and dry roast the rava on low flame. Wait until the color changes and switch off the stove.
Transfer the roasted rava/sooji to a plate.
Warm the water with little salt and switch off the stove. Sprinkle luke warm salt water little by little and mix thoroughly.
Keep mixing until you are able to make a ball. But the balls should break easily. Now the rava is ready to be steam cooked.
Now cut
a clean cloth (cotton) for your Idli plate, cut a hole in the middle so that
the cloth slides through the idli stand on to the plate. [Use
only clean, washed cloth and keep it only for steaming purpose. I think you
will remember the days when our mothers used cloth for idli plates to make idli’s]
Now wet
the cloth, squeeze all the water and place it on the idli plate.
Then spread the rava mix on the idli
plate as shown in the photo.
Later close the rava mix with the excess cloth.
Now steam it in idli cooker for 15 min- 20 min.
Check if the puttu is cooked.
After
it is cooked, transfer the cooked rava to the bowl.
Then add sugar, grated coconut, cardamom powder and mix really well. Note: If you think rava is dry after cooking, just sprinkle little hot water or hot milk and mix it well.
Delicious and healthy Rava Puttu/Sooji Puttu/Semolina Puttu is ready to be enjoyed.
Serving
suggestion: You can serve it with banana and milk.
