Most of
the days, I just don’t plan much about what is to be cooked for breakfast or to
pack for lunch. It is always in the last minute I decide to make something and
get things done with. Today was one among them, I was really tired, so woke up late, had to pack
lunch and send the kids to school. I ended up making Aval/Poha upma in a jiffy and
everything was done on time. To my surprise I could get some clicks, I could
read my husband’s thoughts “what on earth is she doing…”. But it’s ok, jobs
done, wait not just done but well done. This is mom's loving upma. Meanwhile do check out other interesting and healthy Breakfast

Method
You can
use either thick or thin aval(poha). If you are using thick poha rinse and soak
it in water for about 10 min. If think poha is used than rinse and soak only
for 3-5 min.
Squeeze
out the excess water from the aval/poha and
keep it aside.
In a
kadai heat oil, add mustard seeds after it splutters add cumin seeds, urad dal,
channa dal, curry leaves and sauté until golden brown. Add the peanuts,
asafoetida and sauté for about a min.
Now add
the onions, green chillies, ginger and sauté until golden brown. Add the green
peas, turmeric powder and mix well, cover and cook for about 3-5 min.
Add the
rval/poha, salt and mix well but gently for about a min and switch off the
stove.
Mix the
lemon juice to the poha, garnish it with cilantro and serve hot.
Suggestion:
You can
finally add some grated coconut for added taste.
Boiled
potatoes can also be added to aval upma.
