Quick Peas Masala Rice

Yesterday I posted a quick and simple egg rice, today I have come up with a simple peas masala rice. It is a perfect lunch box item for the morning rush, one best thing about this rice is no soaking and no grinding. I always prefer recipes fast and quick and this peas masala rice is one among them. Check out my Peas Pulav Here...

Here’s how to make Peas Masala Rice with step by step photos…

Ingredients

Basmathi/Sona masoori rice
2 cups
Peas [Frozen or fresh]
1 to 1 ½ cup
Onion
1 large finely chopped
Tomato
2 large finely chopped
Ginger & garlic paste
2 tsp
Green chillies
2 slit lengthwise
Red chilli powder
1 tsp
Coriander powder
2 tsp
Garam masala powder
¼ tsp
Turmeric powder
½ tsp
Tomato puree
1 tsp
Coriander leaves
2 tsp finely chopped
Mint
A few for garnishing
Oil
1 tbsp
Salt
As needed

For Tempering

Cumin seeds
1 tsp
Cinnamon sticks
2 pieces (one inch each)
Cloves
3 or 4
Bay leaves
2

Method

Cook the rice in rice cooker or pressure cooker with salt and 1 tsp of oil. After that spread it in plate and keep it aside.

Heat oil in a pan, add the ingredients mentioned for tempering and saute until nice aroma comes out.

Add the onions, green chillies and saute until golden brown.  Now add the ginger & garlic paste and saute until the raw smell vanishes. Now add the tomatoes and let it cook until mushy.

Add the green peas, salt and saute for 2 to 3 min. Now add the red chilli powder, coriander powder, turmeric powder, garam masala powder and saute really well for another 3 mins.

Add ¼ cup water and cook the peas. When the water evaporates and peas cooked add the tomato puree, corianderleaves and stir for another 3 min. Switch off the stove.

Now the peas masala is ready. Add the cooked rice and mix in the masala, so that the masala is coated really well and evenly.

Finally garnish with mint leaves and serve it hot with raita.

Suggestions:
  • I have used tomato puree, you can replace it with lemon juice according to your taste.
  • I have used the peas, you can use the dry green peas also. If you are going to use the dry green peas soak it overnight and the pressure cook it the next day and then use it.
  • I have used sona masoori rice, you can replace it with basmathi rice.
Delicious easy and quick peas masala rice is ready to be enjoyed.

I saved some masala and served it as side dish for dosa...
