Red
chilli coconut chutney is yet another delectable chutney prepared in South
India as side dish for idlis, dosas etc. Earlier I had posted coconut chutney made with green chillies. I also have many other variations in chutneys that I

Ingredients
Coconut [grated]

½ cup

Roasted gram dal/Pottukadalai
|
2 tbsp
|
Dry Red chillies
|
2 or 3
|
Garlic cloves
|

Ginger
|
1 inch piece
|
Tamarind
|
Small goose berry size ball
|
Salt
|
As needed

Tempering
Oil
|
2 tsp
|
Mustard seeds
|
1 tsp
|
Cumin seeds
|
1 tsp
|
Urad dal
|
½ tsp
|
Dry red chillies
|
2
|
Asafoetida
|
1 pinch
|
Curry leaves
|
8-10
|
Preparation Time: 10-15 minutes

Method
Grind
the coconut, roasted gram dal, dry red chillies, garlic cloves, ginger,
tamarind and salt together in a blender. Add required amount of water and make
it in to fine paste. Transfer the chutney to a bowl and keep it aside.
Heat
oil in a kadai and splutter the mustard seeds. Now add cumin seeds, urad dal, dry
red chillies, asafoetida, curry leaves and saute for about 15 sec. Switch off the
stove and add the tempering to the chutney.
Super
delicious, spicy and yummy Red chilli coconut chutney is ready to be enjoyed.
Serve it with hot dosas, idlis or bondas.
