Spinach/Palak
Pakoda is a very quick and easy tea time snack or a starter which can be made
in no time. I am just not going to give a very elaborate introduction for this
pakodas, just try it out guys you will surely love it. Check out Onion Pakodas, Medhu Pakodas and other Starters/Evening snacks here.
Here’s
how to make Spinach/Palak pakodas with step by step photos…
Ingredients
Spinach/Palak
1 cup [leaves from on bunch]
Onion
1 thinly sliced length wise
Green chillies
1 finely chopped
Ginger & Garlic paste
1 tsp
Besan flour/Kadalai Maavu
1 cup
Rice flour
½ cup
Chilli powder
1 tsp
Turmeric powder
¼ tsp
Asafoetida
One pinch
Fennel seeds
1 tsp
Cilantro/Coriander leaves
1 tbsp finely chopped
Salt
As needed
Oil
For deep frying
Method
Clean
the spinach by removing the stems. Wash the leaves, pat them dry with towel and
chop them in to fine pieces.
In a
deep bowl add onions, salt and mix really good with your hands. The onions will
start to ooze out water. Now add 2 tsp of hot oil and mix once again.
Add the
chopped spinach/palak leaves, cilantro and mix it one more time really good.
Now add
the ginger & garlic paste, green chillies, fennel seeds, red chilli powder,
turmeric powder, asafoetida, besan flour, rice flour and mix really well.
Do not
add any water, the moisture content from the onions and spinach is more than
enough to bind all the masala and flour together.
Heat
oil in a kadai for frying, when it is hot enough add small roughly sized balls
in to the oil. They need not be of regular shapes.
Fry the
pakodas until they turn golden brown. Remove it from oil and drain it on a
paper towel.
Enjoy
these crispy and delicious spinach/palak pakodas just like that or with some
ketchup.
