Method

Wash and soak the dal for about 30 minutes.

Rinse it again, add clean fresh water about ¾ cup to the dal and pressure cook it with turmeric powder and salt for one whistle or cook directly in pan. I cooked it directly in the pan.

After the dal is cooked, drain the water and keep the dal aside. The dal should not be mushy, but must be soft and cooked well.

Heat oil in a kadai, splutter mustard seeds, then add cumin seeds, urad dal, asafoetida and saute until dal turns color. Now add the green chillies, dry red chillies, curry leaves and saute for about a minute.

Add the cooked dal and mix it well and saute for about 2 -3 minutes. Now add the grated coconut and mix it well in low flame for about a minute.

Add the chopped coriander and switch off the stove. Finally add the lemon juice and mix it well.

Suggestions:
  • Adjust the amount of chillies, lemon juice  according to your taste.
  • Make sure the dal is not overcooked, the dal should not be mushy. It should soft and cooked perfectly.

Healthy, yummy and protein rich kadalai paruppu sundal is ready for neivedhyam or as evening snack.
