Today
in Priya’s Virundhu, I am sharing with you all a very Healthy Lemon Oats Upma.
I received emails from my subscribers requesting for healthy and
quick breakfast recipes. So I thought of sharing this quick, healthy and tangy
oats upma. If you are a fan of lemon rice, then you will surely love this lemon
oats upma. The best part of this upma is it does not need any side dish and

Here’s
how to make Lemon Oats Upma with step by step photos….
Oats

1 cup

Lemon juice
|
From ½ lemon
|
Water
|
2 cups
|
Turmeric powder
|
¼ tsp
|
Salt
|
As needed
|
For
Tempering
Oil

2 tsp

Mustard seeds
|
½ tsp
|
Cumin seeds
|
½ tsp
|
Split Urad dal
|
½ tsp
|
Chana dal/Kadalai paruppu
|
1 tbsp
|
Roasted Peanuts
|
1 tbsp
|
Green chillies
|
2 finely chopped
|
Ginger
|
1 inch piece finely chopped
|
Curry leaves
|
8-10
|
Asafoetida/Perungayam
|
One small pinch
|

Method
Heat a
pan and dry roast the oats until nice aroma comes in a medium flame. Transfer
it to a plate and keep it aside.
Heat
oil in a kadai, splutter mustard seeds, then add cumin seeds, split urad dal,
chana dal, peanuts and fry until they turn golden brown color. Now add
green chillies, ginger, curry leaves, asafoetida and fry for about a minute.
Add 2
cups of water, salt, turmeric powder and let it boil.
When it comes to rolling
boil add the roasted oats and stir well.
Let the
oats cook for about 3 minutes.
Finally add the lemon juice and stir well on low
flame for about a minute. Now switch off the stove and serve hot.
Delicious,
healthy and tangy Lemon Oats is ready to be enjoyed.
Suggestions:
I have used Quaker oats, adjust the water level according to the oats you are using.
This
Lemon Oats upma does not need any side dish, but can be served with any chutney
of your choice.I have used Quaker oats, adjust the water level according to the oats you are using.
I have dry roasted the oats, so that the upma will be fluffy. But if you are running out of time you can skip that step and follow the same procedure.
Adjust the amount of lemon juice according to your taste.
