Badam
pisin or Almond gum is an edible gum collected from badam/almond trees. Badam
tree bark secretes the gum and it gets dried up, which is later collected and
used for medicinal purposes. They look like little rocks which are white in
colour and an excellent natural body coolant. The famous drink of Tamil Nadu - Jigarthanda, Rose
milk etc are prepared by adding Nannari sarbat to the badam pisin. The badam
pisin is soaked overnight in water which then becomes like jelly; this jelly
can then be used along with sarbats. Badam Pisin is a natural jelly which can be consumed by everyone to beat
the heat and keep the body cool. This is badam pisin milk is an easy and simple
home remedy during the hot summer days. My grandma used to give this for us and
now I do it for my kids or for myself. Do you really want to see how the badam pisin looks like and how it turns into a jelly, then scroll down further for more photos... Also check out Madurai famous Jigarthanda made with Badam Pisin here

And also warm milk with honey will also help you gain weight. If you are vegetarian, take lots of protein rich food for healthy weight gain. But my suggestion is as you get older you will surely gain more weight. ReplyDeleteIt's help for face brighten ?
ReplyDeleteHey I soaked it over night but it dissolved in water.. it didn't become jelly or doubled up!!
ReplyDeleteI soaked the badam pisin overnight.. it dissolved in water.. it dint double up or become jelly like.. don't know what went wrong
ReplyDeleteIf it real badam pisin, then it will double up. Even if it was like a powder still it will make in to jelly. Add just plain water and try again. If it does not work, then something is wrong with your badam pisin, but from genuine shop and try it again.
Deletehi,
ReplyDeleteCan pregnant women drink this?

DeleteHi Priya,
ReplyDeleteIs Kathira Goondh and Almond Goondh the same? When I asked around for Almond Goondh, I was given Kathira Goondh saying it is the same. Please help Clarify.
Hi Rashmi,
DeleteKathira Goondh is different from Almond Goondh. Kathira Goondh is the gum collected from different types of trees, which also has its own benefits. Almond Goondh is the gum collected from the almond trees. It is really difficult to differentiate, it is just that you have to buy it from a trustworthy shop. Hope this helps. Please keep visiting Priyas virundhu for more delightful recipes and support us as well.
