Ajwain Paratha/Omam Paratha/Carom Seeds Paratha/How to make Triangle Parathas

I have been making different types of easy and quick paratha a lot lately, the hidden reason behind it is to pack lunch for my girls. This ajwain paratha is one such paratha. It is a flavourful and delicious paratha that can be made in no time and is a perfect lunch box recipe. Ajwain/Omam is very a common and a handy herb/seed in Indian households which helps in getting rid of stomach pain, indigestion and flatulence. Not only as a good digestive aid it has other health benefits as well. Ajwain is very useful in relieving sinus problems, cold and congestion. A quick tip, before going into the recipe, crush a few seeds of ajwain tie it in a soft cloth and heat the bundle over a warm tawa. Apply this warm bundle over the chest to relieve congestion.  Having said a few things about ajwain, let’s move on to the recipe. Check out other different types of  chapathis/parathas here.

Here’s how to make Ajwain/Omam paratha with step by step photos…

Ingredients

Wheat flour/Gothumaimaavu
2 cups + extra for dusitng
Ajwain/Omam/Carom seeds
2 tsp
Red chilli powder
1 tsp
Turmeric powder
¼ tsp
Garam masala powder
¼ tsp
Oil
1 tbsp
Salt
As needed
Water
To knead the dough
Preparation time: 20 minutes
Cooking time: 20 minutes
Makes: 15 to 18
Method

In a wide bowl, add wheat flour, ajwain, red chilli powder, turmeric powder, garam masala powder, salt, oil and mix really well.

Add warm water little by little and make a soft pliable dough.

Cover and let it sit for 10 minutes. Make small balls from the dough.

Roll the parathas into flat round shape or as shown in the photo. Dust some extra wheat flour while rolling the parathas.

Heat tawa in medium flame, cook the rolled out paratha first one side and after a few seconds flip them to cook the other side as well. Drizzle little oil along the sides of the parath and cook them evenly on both the sides.

Similarly cook rest of the parathas.

Delicious, flavorful and healthy parathas are ready to enjoyed.

Serve the ajwain paratha with any pickle or bowl of yogurt. I served these parathas with onion subji. I will post onion subji in the coming post.
