Onion Rice/Vengaya Sadam - Natural cure to reduce body heat & to heal stomach pain

I have been thinking of posting this recipe for a very long time, but could not. This is a recipe which my grandma used to make, then my mom and now me. This onion rice is very special and has lots of medicinal values in it. My grandma used to make this rice, when someone is suffering from stomach pain. She used to say that the onions, cooked in ghee, combined with black pepper powder reduces the body heat, heals the stomach ulcer and cures the pain. I make this a lot in summer days to cool down the body temperature. My grandma makes this only with white onions, but I switch between white, red and small pearl onions depending on the availability of onions in my kitchen. Any way friends do try out this wonderful, healing Onion rice and post your feedback.

Here’s how to make Onion Rice with step by step photos…

Ingredients

Cooked Rice
2 cups
Onion [White/Red]
2 big finely chopped
Garlic Cloves
3-4 finely chopped
Gingelly Oil
1 ½ tbsp.
Ghee
2 tsp
Black Pepper Powder
2-3 tsp
Salt
As needed
Preparation time: 10 minutes
Cooking time: 10 minutes
Serves: 2-3

Method

Cook the rice and keep it aside separately.

Heat oil+ghee in a kadai, add the onions, garlic and sauté well.

Add little salt, Sauté the onions until they become soft and the colour changes to golden brown colour.

Now add the cooked rice to the onions.

Add the black pepper powder to the rice and the stove should be sim.

Mix thoroughly until well combined, adjust the amount of salt in the rice and switch off the stove.

Yes, delicious, healthy and cooling Onion rice/Vengaya Sadam is ready to be  enjoyed.

Suggestions:
My grandma makes this rice with only white onions for its medicinal values, so if white onions are available in the place you live, then try to make this rice with the same. Else you can make this rice with sambar onions or regular red onions as well.
