Today I
am going to share with you all a very healthy Ragi Kanji Maavu/Powder suitable
for all the age groups starting from 5 month old baby to adults. This kanji maavu is my mom’s recipe which involves just 5 ingredients
and we all used to have this kanji for breakfast when we were kids. And now I
give it for my kids and we all enjoy it a lot. It may have less ingredients
compared to saathu maavu but this kanji maavu is packed with vitamins, minerals,
builds your stamina and also digest really fast. So friends, try out this Ragi

Here’s
how to make Ragi Kanji Maavu with step by step photos….
Ingredients
Ragi/Kezhvaragu/Finger Millet
|
1 kg
|
Whole Wheat/Godhumai/Samba Wheat
|
¼ kg
|
Roasted Gram/Pottukadalai
|
¼ kg
|
Boiled Rice/Puzhunga Arisi**
|
¼ kg
|
Elachi/Ellakkai
|
6-8
|
**Use the regular boiled rice used for
regular cooking, do not use idli rice.

Clean the
ragi thoroughly; get rid of any foreign particles from it. Wash the ragi really
well. Drain the water completely and dry it well in the shade by spreading it
on a clean cloth.
After
it dries, dry roast it on medium flame until nice aroma fills the room. Transfer
it to a plate and let it cool completely.
Clean
the whole wheat thoroughly. Wash the whole wheat , drain the water completely
and dry it well in the shade by spreading it on a clean cloth.
After
the whole whet dries, dry roast it on medium flame and transfer it to a plate
and let it cool.
Now dry
roast boiled rice and roasted gram one at a time. Let everything cool down
completely.
Mix
everything together and give it in the flour mill and make it to fine powder.
Now
healthy and delicious Ragi Kanji Mix/Ragi Kanji Maavu is ready.
Now
preparing the porridge…
Take 2
tsp of kanji powder/kanji maavu, add 1 cup of water, ¼ tsp salt and mix really
well.
Cook
this mixture in low flame until it thickens. Keep stirring continuously to
prevent the kanji from burning.
Now add
about ½ cup of milk, mix really well and switch off the stove. Add required
amount of sugar/jaggery/panagkalkandu to the kanji for taste.
Delicious,
healthy and filling Ragi Kanji is ready to be enjoyed. Serve it for breakfast
or just as evening snack for kids after school.
