Method
Clean
the varagarisi thoroughly to get rid of any foreign particles. Now wash it two
to three times in clear water. Drain the water and keep it aside.
Heat
oil in a kadai/pan, splutter mustard seeds, add cumin seeds, kadalai
paruppu/chana dal, curry leaves, asafoetida and fry for few seconds.
Now add
finely chopped onions, green chillies, grated ginger and saute till the onions
turn transparent.
Now add
about 3 cups of water and bring it to
boil.
Once
the water starts to boil add salt, varagarisi and mix thoroughly.
Cover
and cook the varagarisi in low flame for about 10 minutes. Stir in between.
Wait until all the water is completely absorbed. By this time varagarisi will
be completely cooked.
Add the
grated coconut and mix well.

healthy and delicious Varagarisi upma is ready to be enjoyed.
You can
serve this healthy Varagu Upma with chutney, sambar or just with pickle and it
