Friends,
Today, I
am going to share a very elegant and traditional recipe that we especially make
on Karthigai Deepam that is none other than Sweet Rava Appam. This appam though made for neivedhyam during
pooja days; can be made as quick snack for kids after school and add a big
smaile on their face. We make different types of appam, like wheat flour appam,
neiappam etc which I will be updating soon. For now, do try out this quick and

Here’s
how to make Sweet Rava Appam with step by step photos…
Ingredients
Rava/Sooji/Semolina
|
1 cup
|
Maida/All Purpose Flour
|
½ cup
|
Sugar
|
¾ cup
|
Cooking Soda [optional]
|
One pinch
|
Banana [ripe]
|
1
|
Cardamom/Elachi powder
|
¼ tsp
|
Oil
|
For frying
|
Preparation
Time: 10 minutes
Cooking
Time: 20-25 minutes
Method
Soak
the rava/Sooji in water for 15 minutes. After that, drain the excess water from
the rava.
Blend
the banana in mixer to a smooth paste.
Now add
maida, sugar, elachi powder, ground banana paste, cooking soda to the soaked
rava.
Now mix
everything really, add required amount of water and mix to make thick batter.
Let the batter sit for 5 minutes.
Heta
the kuzhipaniyaram pan, and pour little oil/ghee in all the slots.
Spoon
this rava batter into paniyaram mould. Cook for about a minute till the bottom
turn gold.
Flip it
carefully with a spoon or vadakuthi. Cook on the other side for few more secs.
If needed add little oil and cook evenly on both the sides.

delicious and traditional Sweet Rava Appam in ready to be enjoyed.
Suggestions:
I have used kuzhi paniyaram pan to make these appam, you can as well deep fry it in oil. For that heat oil in kadai in medium flame, pour one small ladle of batter in oil, do not flip it immediately. Wait for sometime, let one get cooked, then flip and cook the other side as well. Cook on all sides evenly and drain from oil.
