Jeera

how to make Jeera Rice with Step by Step photos…
Basmathi Rice

Bay Leaf

Preparation

Method
Wash
and soak basmati rice in water for 20 – 30 minutes. Drain the water and keep it
aside.
Heat
ghee/butter in a heavy bottomed pan, add cinnamon sticks, cloves, star anise,
bay leaf, cardamom and fry it until they begin to sizzle.
Now add
the cumin seeds/jeeragam/jeera and sauté for few more seconds on low flame
until they are roasted well.
Add
slice onions and fry until they turn golden brown color.
Now add
about 1 ½ cups of water and salt to the pan.
Let it
come to boil, then add the drained basmati rice and bring it boil.
Now
lower the flame, cover and cook until the rice is cooked soft [approximately
10-12 minutes]. If you are using a pressure cooker, then cover the lid cook for
1 -2 whistles and switch off the stove.
Open
the lid and fluff up the rice with a fork.
