I have been sharing quite interesting and healthy tea varieties from my kitchen. In the same series today is yet another very tasty and delectable Coriander Seeds Tea which can be consumed by all age groups. You can even give it to kids after school. Coriander seeds are popularly known as Dhaniya in India and are one of the items that are found in everyone’s pantry. Apart from being very popular spice it is also known for their health benefits.

Benefits of Coriander Seeds/Dhaniya/Kothamalli

Nutritional value of Coriander

The coriander seeds/Dhaniya is loaded with vitamin A, Vitamin K Folate and Patassium. Coriander seeds have a high content of phytonutrients, flavonoids and phenolic compounds. A good amount of dietary fibre is found in coriander. It is a great source of calcium, iron, potassium and magnesium.

Improves Digestion

Coriander seeds contain antioxidants, which aid the healthy functioning of the liver. Dhaniya helps in producing digestive enzymes, which helps in curing indigestion. It helps in reducing diarrhoea, cures nausea, vomiting and other stomach disorders.

Regulates Blood Pressure

The consumption of coriander seeds helps in reducing blood pressure in people suffering from hypertension. By treating high blood pressure, the risk of blood clots and stokes is also greatly reduced.

Lowers Blood Sugar

It is an excellent spice to treat diabetes naturally and helps reduce insulin levels.

Women’s Health

Women/girls who suffer from heavy periods should include coriander seeds in their diet. The endocrine gland and hormones get activated and helps in regulating the flow. Coriander also helps with cramps and bloating during menstruation. Coriander seeds are wonderful source of iron. Including coriander seeds tea in our daily diet is one way to include in our food can boost the iron level to a great extent.

The anti-inflammatory properties of coriander seeds are said to help protect the nervous system from damage. They contain natural compounds that help detox the body and remove all the traces of heavy toxic metals like lead, mercury and aluminium.

Seasonal allergies and rhinitis can be reduced by consuming coriander. Allergic reactions caused by coming in contact plants, insects and food can be controlled by applying coriander oil.

Ingredients

To make Coriander Seeds Tea Powder
Coriander Seeds/Dhaniya
½ cup
Cardamom/Elakkai
4
Cooking Time: 5 minutes

To make Tea
Water
1 ½  cup
Coriander Seeds Tea Powder
2 tsp
Ginger
One small piece
Milk
1 cup
Naatu Sarkkarai/Panang Kalkandu
1 ½ tsp [adjust to taste]
Cooking Time: 5 minutes
Makes: 2 cups

Method

Preparing Coriander Seeds/Dhaniya Tea Powder

Dry roast coriander seeds/dhaniya and cardamom/elakkai  in a kadai/pan until nice aroma fills the room and the color of the dhania changes to beautiful golden color. Make sure you keep mixing to avoid burning of dhaniya.


Remove from stove and let it cool completely.


Add roasted coriander seeds/dhaniya and cardamom/elakkai to the mixer and grind to a powder.

Now the coriander seeds tea powder is ready. Transfer it to an airtight container/glass bottle and make tea whenever needed.

How to make Coriander Seeds Tea/Dhaniya Tea/Kothamalli Tea?

Heat  1 ½ cup of water in a pan.

Add 2 tsp of coriander seeds tea powder and let it come to rolling boil.


Now add one small piece of ginger [crushed] to the water.


Let it boil well for about a minute or a little more so that all the essence comes to the water and the color will change and the water will reduce a little.

Now add one cup of milk and let it come to boil again. Switch off the stove.


Strain the tea to two cups, add required amount of naatu sarkkarai/panang kalkandu, mix well and enjoy.
