Thalichha Paruppu/Paruppu Kadaiyal/Simple Dal for Neivedhyam & Pooja Days/Dal Tadka South Indian Style [No Onion No Garlic Recipe]

Here’s how to make Thalichha Paruppu with step by step photos…
Ingredients
Thoor Dal/Thuvar Dal/Thuvaram Paruppu
½ cup
Turmeric Powder/Manjal Thool
½ tsp
Asafoetida/Perungaayam
¼ tsp
Water
1 ½ cups
Oil
¼ tsp
Salt
 As needed

For Tempering
Ghee/Gingelly Oil
2 tsp
Mustard Seeds/Kadugu
½ tsp
Cumin Seeds/Jeeragam
½ tsp
Dry Red Chillies
3-4
Curry Leaves/Karuvepillai
8-10

Method
Wash and soak the thoordal/thuvaram paruppu/thur dal for about 15 mins.

Add washed thuvaram paruppu/thur dal to the pressure cooker along with 1 ½ cups of water.

Add turmeric powder, ¼ tsp of oil, asafoetida/perungayam to the pressure cooker.
Pressure cook for 3 whistles and switch off the stove.

Wait for the steam to release all by itself, then open the lid and mash the dal with masher or mathu.

Add little water, required salt mix and keep the dal aside.

Heat 1 tbsp of ghee in a pan, splutter mustard seeds, add cumin seeds, dry red chillies, curry leaves and fry until curry leaves trun crispy and switch off the stove.

Transfer the tempering to the dal and mix well.

Yes, delicious, tasty and healthy Thalicha Paruppu is ready to be enjoyed or for neivedhyam. Serve hot with rice along with drizzle of ghee.
