Moong Dal/Paasi Paruppu |
½ cup |

1 finely chopped or 10-12 shallots |
Green Chillies |
3 slit and cut |
Garlic Cloves |
4-5 crushed |
Tomatoes |
2 finely chopped |
Asafoetida/Perungayam |
¼ tsp |
Turmeric Powder |
¼ tsp |

For Tempering
Oil |

Red
Ponnanganni Keerai
Clean
the red ponnanganni keerai, pluck the leaves and keep it ready.
Wash the keerai at least 2-3 times thoroughly with water and drain it. Chop it roughly and keep it ready.
Take ½ cup
of moong dal/paasi paruppu, add water, wash thoroughly and drain the water.
Add washed
dal to the pressure cooker, add 2 cups of water, ¼ tsp of asafoetida/perungayam
and ¼ tsp of turmeric powder.
Close
the lid and pressure cook for 2-3 whistles.
Meanwhile heat 3 tsp of oil in a pan, splutter mustard seeds, cumin seeds and dry red chillies.
Add
finely chopped onion, slit green chillies, crushed garlic cloves and little
salt.
Saute
the onions really well until they turn translucent.
At this stage, switch off the stove.
Open the pressure cooker and mash the dal really well.
Add the cooked red ponnanganni keerai to the dal and mix really well.
Add ¼ cup of water, if needed little salt and boil well for another 4-5 minutes.
Now the
keerai is cooked thoroughly along with dal.
Now switch off the stove.
Delicious,
healthy and tempting Red Ponnanganni Keerai Paasi Paruppu Kadaiyal is ready to
be enjoyed. Serve it hot with steam cooked white rice, potato fry and any
vegetable poriyal of your choice.
