Today, I am going to share a very tempting, easy and delicious Onion Thokku/Vengaya Thokku. This onion thokku is a perfect side dish that can be served for idlis, dosas, chapathis etc. I have already posted another version on Onion Thokku which my mom makes quite often, which you can check it out in the link. how to make Onion Thokku Recipe with step by step photos…

Preparation

Method
Chop
the onions, peel the garlic and keep everything ready.
Heat 1 tbsp of oil in a pan/kadai. Add cumin seeds, coriander seeds and give a stir.
Now add
dry red chillies, Kashmiri red chillies and saute on low flame until the color
slightly changes.
At this
stage add the garlic cloves and saute well until the color changes.
Finally
add tamarind, stir really well and switch off the stove.
Transfer
it to a plate and let it cool down.
Add
this mixture to a mixer jar, required salt, 1/2 tsp jaggery and grind it with 1-2 tbsp of water and keep it
aside.
Meanwhile
heat 1 tbsp of oil to the same pan/kadai, add the chopped onions to the pan.
Add little salt to the onions and sauté well until they turn translucent. Switch off the stove and let the onions cool down.
Add the onions to the same mixer jar and grind it to fine paste.
Heat 2
tsp of oil in a kadai/pan, splutter mustard seeds, then add asafoetida and
curry leaves.
Now add the ground onion paste and mix really well.
Saute
the onion mixture really well for about 3-4 minutes.
The
color of the onion mixture will change and the oil will start to separate out.
At this stage switch off the stove.
Super delicious and tempting Onion Thokku is ready to be enjoyed. Serve it with steam cooked idlis, dosais, chapathis/rotis or can be spread on bread to make sandwiches.
