Golu is the beautiful display or arrangement of dolls in South India during Navarathri which falls in the autumn season. Navaratri is a special festival dedicated for the worship of Goddess Durga. Navaratri is a Sanskrit word – “Nava” means nine and “Ratri” means night. During these nine nights and ten days, nine forms of Shakthi are invoked at our homes and worshiped for peace and prosperity. Karupatti Pongal Recipe/Palm Jaggery Pongal Recipe-How to make Karupatti Pongal with step by step photos

Today, I am going to share a traditional and tempting Karupatti Pongal. We usually make sakkarai Pongal in a pot, but in this post I am sharing an easy way to make sakkarai Pongal in a pressure cooker. Usually jaggery is used to make Sakkarai Pongal, but I have replaced it with Palm Jaggery/Karupati. Karupatti/Palm Jaggery is made from the extract of the palm tree. It is a very healthy and traditional sweetener and is an excellent alternative for white sugar.

Karupatti is rich in essential Vitamins, Minerals and Amino acids. Palm jaggery is rich in iron and it increases hemoglobin and treats anemia if consumed regularly. It is rich in magnesium and helps to regulate the nervous system. Presence of calcium helps to build and maintain strong bones. It also contains potassium which boosts heart health, decreases cramps and has several other benefits as well. It boosts the immune system and thus prevents several blood-related and other disorders. Do check out how to make Karupatti Pongal and post your comments here. Meanwhile do check out other Pongal Recipes here and All aboutPongal and Pongal Menu here.

Dwadasi Paaranai/Duadasi Thaligai/Dhuvadasi Menu/Dhuvadasi Paaranai Recipes with step by step photos

Ekadasi Viratham [fasting] is practised by the followers of Lord Vishnu as a step to attain a place in Vaikuntam. Ekadasi vratham is a 3 day vrat which starts on Dashami [10 th Lunar day] and concludes on Dwadasi[12 th Lunar day]. On Dashami and Dwadasi we should eat only twice and on Ekadasi it is complete upavasam [we should not eat anything]. On all three days, Lord MahaVishnu name is chanted and prayers are to be performed. Dwadasi is the day after ekadasi , Paaranai is breaking the fast. One should break the fast after the sunrise of the dwadasi, after the first quarter of the dwadasi tithi has passed, but before the dwadasi tithi has ended. If there’s insufficient time, the fasting can be broken with a Thulasi water. The people who fasted on Ekadasi day will have Dwadasi Paaranai – special meal to finish the fasting. The paaranai should not involve tamarind, tomatoes, plaintains and are made to ease the system after fasting and to balance the acidity levels. Please check out the list of Dhuvadasi Paaranai iterms and how to prepare them with step by step photos
